Mental Health Conditions

Mental illnesses are medical conditions that can affect a person’s thinking, feelings, and moods. They can also affect the way a person relates to other people and how well they manage day-to-day activities. Family members and friends can also be affected when there is a serious illness of any kind in the family including mental illness.

Mentoring

NAMI mentors are people whose lived experience of mental illness makes them uniquely qualified to help you. They have been affected by mental illness as family members, individuals living with mental health conditions, or both. They can empathize with you because they’ve been there, too. They provide information about mental health conditions and about resources in the community. Mentors are available Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:15 pm. Please call our office at 801-323-9900.

Criminal Justice

NAMI Utah is aware that, far too often, there is a link between the criminal justice system and those with mental health conditions. This is due to many factors including inadequate access to psychiatric care, housing, and other community supports. When you or a family member becomes involved with the criminal justice system it can be a scary and confusing time. Find out how NAMI Utah can help.
