Programs Director Job Description

Hours: Full time, 36 hours per week, some evenings and week-ends
Salary: $29-$33 per hour

Work Location: Required to be in the Salt Lake office at least two days per week
Reports to: Executive Director
Position Summary
The programs director leads the NAMI Signature programs department, supervising and mentoring staff, programs assistants and volunteers, assuring they have support be successful in their roles. This person builds relationships with our national headquarters utilizing their resources and working to ensure the department has tools needed for quality programs. They work closely with affiliates strategically developing in person programs as capacity grows. The programs director is an integral part of NAMI Utah’s leadership team and works collaboratively to strengthen and grow the organization both internally and beyond. As a leader they help develop community partners, sit on community committees, and provide presentations about NAMI Utah.
Day-to-Day Operations
- Lead and supervise programs staff and volunteers in day-to-day operations of support groups, courses, and presentations.
- Implement presentations program in Utah by hiring a presentations coordinator, and supporting them in the development of a robust presentations program in schools and the larger community, which includes developing and building relationships with these entities.
- Use a trauma informed approach that holds volunteers and staff accountable and creates a culture that focuses on collaboration, building on strengths, compassion and flexibility.
- Develop and implement a plan that grows the program department including recruitment and training of volunteers, and increasing number of people reached throughout Utah.
- Lead efforts to recruit, train, support and recognize volunteers, including participation in and planning an annual affiliate retreat.
- Provide regular reports that show participant experience, numbers reached, demographics, etc.
- Ensure programs department works closely with staff responsible for social media and NAMI Utah web site and content is provided for both.
Training & Support of Volunteers
- Work with programs and presentations coordinators to recruit new volunteers, and plan regular NAMI Signature trainings of new facilitators, teachers and presenters.
- Ensure NAMI national’s protocols are followed throughout trainings and beyond, and that those trained are registered with the national office and invited to national support calls.
- Lead regular support meetings for programs volunteers, working with state trainers to plan support meetings.
NAMI National
- Ensure NAMI Utah programs department is in compliance with all NAMI National requirements (data reporting, volunteer certification requirements, volunteers registered on national portal, etc.)
- Build relationships with NAMI National education department, attend their technical assistance calls, and utilize their resources for strengthening the programs department.
- Ensure the NAMI National and NAMI Utah web sites are up-to-date with accurate information.
Data Collection and Reporting
- With Executive Director input, set and monitor metrics that grow programs.
- Assure data is collected accurately and in a timely fashion.
- Review and approve all reports before they are distributed, including evaluation reports for facilitators, teachers and presenters.
- Assure NAMI National receives required reporting in a timely fashion.
General NAMI Utah Responsibilities
- Actively engage with the NAMI Utah staff culture, through participation in leadership and staff meetings, sharing insights, and leaning into collaborative problem solving.
- Participate in community committees and activities that promote the work of NAMI Utah.
- Assist with NAMI Utah events including NAMIWalks Utah, the NAMI Utah fall conference, the Faith Summit, and our annual meeting.
- Complete other duties as assigned, working together with our team to assure the success of the agency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 3-5 years experience managing people / programs
- Experience with NAMI programs a plus, but not required
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
