Family Resource Facilitators

Family Resource Facilitators are trained family members who provide peer support to parents/caregivers of children, youth and young adults who are experiencing behavioral health challenges. They help families navigate local resources, supports and services for their child/youth/young adult and more.

Developing Family-Driven & Child-Centered Public Mental Health

Family Resource Facilitators (FRFs) play a key role in developing a formalized, family-driven and child-centered public mental health system in the State of Utah. FRFs are trained family members who develop working partnerships with their local community mental health agencies to represent family voice at service delivery, administration and policy levels. FRFs are located throughout the State of Utah and provide the following services, free of charge, to families:

  • peer support to parents/caregivers of children, youth and young adults who are experiencing behavioral health challenges
  • help navigating local resources, supports and services
  • help families learn how to advocate for culturally appropriate services and supports
  • link families and youth to local information, support groups and classes
  • provide family wraparound facilitation when children/youth are at risk of removal and/or are multi-agency involved and/or have complex needs

Services to Improve Outcomes

The services provided by FRFs are designed and delivered in a way that increases family involvement at all levels and improves outcomes for families and communities where they live. Each Family Resource Facilitator receives standardized and ongoing training, coaching, and supervision by the members of the Utah Family Coalition (Allies with Families and NAMI Utah) who work together to:

  • Train, coach, and support the FRFs
  • Ensure fidelity to the program and the wraparound model
  • Promote family engagement and involvement
  • Promote systems of care values and principles statewide
  • Work to develop a family driven youth guided behavioral health service delivery system in Utah
